Celebration Station: This year we have a group of community volunteers who are hosting Celebration Stations each Tuesday morning from 11:00-11:45 a.m. Teachers select students to send, and they share a celebration with the volunteers. Celebrations can include academic progress, individual goal achievement and more! Students also earn a certificate and bee sticker for each visit. To date, the volunteers have had the pleasure of celebrating with over 75 McCornack students K-5!
Ruby Bridges Walk To School
In honor of Ruby Bridges, who was the first African American student to attend an all-white school in New Orleans in 1960 when she was only six years old, we will walk together to show that All Are Welcome Here.
Please join us as we walk together to school. We will meet outside The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 3500 W. 18th Street at 7:30 a.m and walk to school at 7:40 a.m. We will walk west on 18th, south on Bailey Hill to Westleigh, and through the neighborhood to the back on McCornack. Students will arrive in time to have breakfast before we start our day.

Surprise Attendance Days: As part of our efforts to build excitement about regular (90%+) attendance at school, we are surprising students throughout the year with “Surprise Attendance Days”! They are announced each morning as students enter the building, earning a pollen pat for being here and another for being on time. Additionally, we have school-wide celebrations during the day that include sidewalk chalk at recess, small treats, dance parties and more. This week the Churchill Cheer Team came to celebrate our students! Thanks to the parents and caregivers for your support getting students to school each day!
On Track with Attendance: As we head into November, we wish to remind families of our goal: All students maintain 90% on-time daily attendance. By the end of November we will have had 51 school days. The goal is that your student(s) is here at least 46 total days. Please reach out to any trusted staff member if you need help supporting your child's attendance. To date, 77% of McCornack students have 90% or better daily attendance. As a school, let's aim for 80% of students by the end of November!
McCornack Mondays! We’re excited to start McCornack Mondays, a fun new tradition where students and staff are encouraged to wear their McCornack T-shirts every Monday. It’s a great way to build school spirit and celebrate being part of our McCornack community!
We’ll also be working with our PTO to get McCornack T-shirts for our kindergarten students as soon as possible, so our newest McCornack Bees can join in the fun!
Jog-a-thon!: This year’s McCornack Jog-a-thon is Friday, November 20th! Our goal is to raise $8,000! Please reach out to relatives, friends, customers, bosses, anyone who loves our kids!
Pledge envelopes will be sent home October 30th. Click HERE to donate online

Our Character focus for the month of November is: Gratitude/Generosity: I give to others and appreciate what others give to me
The Bee Jamboree choices this month will be: Would You Rather See How Many Rubber Bands It Takes To Make A Watermelon Explode vs. Watching Elephant Toothpaste Explode
People who are Generous/Grateful:
Appreciate the friendships and resources they have
Focus on what they have instead of what they don't
Accept themselves and others as they are
Are resilient
Are kind to others and themselves
Enjoy seeing others' needs met
Actively work to improve the lives of those around them
Give without expecting anything in return
Lost and Found: McCornack’s Lost and Found is located outside of the front office. Please check it regularly for all the lost things 😀 We’d love for the items to find their homes.
*Please remember to label ALL zip ups, hoodies, jackets, and coats.
Personal Items from Home: To help us keep learning as our main focus and prevent distractions in the classroom, toys, stuffed animals, fidgets, games, and other non-instructional items from home must stay at home. These items can often shift a student's attention away from lessons and activities, making it harder for them and their classmates to learn. If needed to support the individual need of a student, we will provide the item/tool at school. The only exceptions are when these items are specifically part of a classroom activity, reward, or project (i.e. classroom PJ and stuffy reward day).
School Supplies for the 2026/2027 School Year: For the 2026–27 school year, we are requesting a suggested donation of $35 per student. Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated. This covers nearly all of the supplies your student will need for the entire year! 😊
You can make your donation through our Supply Donation Link, or you may pay by cash or check in the front office.
Thank you for helping us make sure our students have everything they need for a successful school year! 💙
We are also seeking donations of the following items:
Large bottles of hand sanitizer
Kleenex
Wet wipes
Non-perishable snacks
We have created an Amazon Wish List with ongoing supply needs. Items can be ordered and shipped directly to McCornack 🙂 *We’ve already received donations through Amazon! A BIG, heartfelt thank you to everyone who has contributed.
If your child is in need of a backpack, we have plenty in stock here at McCornack. Come by the office to pick one out!
McCornack Parent/Family Handbook: Welcome to our McCornack school community! The Parent/Family Handbook is here to help us all understand the guidelines, procedures, and shared values that keep our school a safe and welcoming place for everyone. We kindly ask that you take some time to read through the handbook together, so we can all be on the same page and work towards a wonderful school year.
Site Council Meeting Agenda Minutes from October 13th
YMCA Before/After School Care: The YMCA offers before and after school care here
at McCornack. At this time, the McCornack programs are full, and if you are in need of
