Congratulations Mrs. Davies! Congratulations to our very own Judy Davies, who was honored this week with the 4J Golden Apple Lifetime Achievement Award! Judy's dedication, compassion, and innovative teaching methods have profoundly impacted her students, colleagues, and the entire school community. A parent beautifully captures Judy's impact, stating, "She is that teacher you never forget." Her classroom is a vibrant and inclusive space, reflecting her dedication to equity and her belief in the value of diverse perspectives. Judy's ability to connect with her students and inspire them to believe in themselves is truly remarkable. Please join us in celebrating Judy Davies for her extraordinary contributions and lasting impact on our community!
Lost and Found: We have an abundance of lost items located near the front office. All unclaimed lost items will be donated on June 17th. We’d love for all the lost things to find their homes.
5th Grade Promotion: We want to have a chance to say “See you soon!” to 5th grade students before they leave McCornack. This milestone in life is important and we want to honor it! We are planning a walk-through promotion at McCornack for the 5th graders on Thursday, June 13 beginning at 6:00 p.m. Each family can park in the lot and walk their 5th grade student through the bus lane to celebrate with K-5 teachers and staff. Near the bike racks, students should find their 5th grade teacher to get a certificate of promotion, then enjoy cookies and photos with family and friends.
5th Grade Clap Out: We will have a 5th grade "clap out" again on Friday, June 14th beginning at 11:15 a.m. Bumble will guide our 5th graders through the building along a route of K-4 students who will congratulate them. They will exit through the office to the front of the building. Once out front, we will have ice cream and music before we dismiss all K-4 students at 11:45. If needed, 5th graders can go back in to gather belongings. Families are invited to join in the grass area in front of the main office to cheer as they exit. We are also seeking volunteers to help scoop ice cream!
Class Placements 23/24: At McCornack we use a variety of data points (academic, social, behavior support, race/ethnicity, gender, etc.) to thoughtfully and intentionally draft initial class placements for the coming school year. These drafts are then given to current grade level teams for review and revision. Placements will be shared with incoming McCornack families in August via email. We will host “Meet the Teacher” before school begins as well.
Kindergarten Registration for the 24/25 School Year: Will your child be 5 years old by September 1st? We are accepting registrations!! Come by McCornack’s office to pick up a registration packet or visit 4j.lane.edu/kindergarten
Kindergarten Smart Start: The District has made some changes to the program based on comments they received from our families and staff following the introduction of the program last fall. This year's schedule includes only two days where students will be separated into cohorts based on last name, instead of the four days last year. Under this arrangement, one cohort will attend class while the other group is out of school on Thursday, Sept. 5, with the cohorts reversed during the second day on Friday, Sept. 6. This schedule allows our educators to get to know the students in a smaller group setting.
Kindergarten Smart Start, Sept. 4–13, 2024
Last name A–L: Attend Sept. 4 (W), 5 (Th) and 9–11 (M–W)
Last name M–Z: Attend Sept. 4 (W), 6 (F) and 9–11 (M–W)
No Kindergarten Sept. 12 & 13 (parent-teacher conversations)
Regular school schedule begins on Monday, Sept. 16
Providing this unique start allows for smaller classes and time to connect with families, giving teachers the opportunity to understand your child’s unique strengths as well as their academic and social needs from the very beginning. Kindergarten Smart Start will help ensure a successful and personalized introduction to school for each student and a smoother start for all students.
