Student Registration: Our office is open for new student registration. If your child attended McCornack last year, there is no need to reregister. If you know any new students in our community or children who will be 5 years old on or before September 1st, please encourage them to register here at the school. We are also excited to welcome students who are new to our area.
McCornack Parent/Family Handbook: Welcome to our McCornack school community! The Parent/Family Handbook is here to help us all understand the guidelines, procedures, and shared values that keep our school a safe and welcoming place for everyone. We kindly ask that you take some time to read through the handbook together, so we can all be on the same page and work towards a wonderful school year.

School Supplies for the 2026/2027 School Year: For the 2026–27 school year, we are requesting a suggested donation of $35 per student. Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated. This covers nearly all of the supplies your student will need for the entire year! 😊
You can make your donation through our Supply Donation Link, or you may pay by cash or check in the front office.

Class Placements 26/27: At McCornack we use a variety of data points (academic, social, behavior support, race/ethnicity, gender, etc.) to thoughtfully and intentionally draft initial class placements for the coming school year. These drafts are then given to current grade level teams for review and revision. Placements will be shared with incoming McCornack families via Parent Square on September 4th. We will host “Meet the Teacher” on September 8th as well. Kindergarten families will have the opportunity to connect with both kindergarten teachers that evening!
Kindergarten Transition Day: Please start your 1st day of kindergarten outside the main office. Students should bring their backpack and a reusable water bottle with them each day. Beginning at 8:00 a.m. we will have staff to welcome you, and an individual staff member will guide your family through each step. Next, wish your child well at the cafeteria door where they will head inside for breakfast. Then parents can gather in front of the school and enjoy refreshments. Kindergarten pick up is on the primary playground each day. Dismissal on both 9/8 and 9/9 is 1:45 p.m.
Title 1 Meet the Teacher Night: We are thrilled to invite families into our classrooms on September 8th beginning at 5:00 p.m. to meet their teachers and see the spaces. At 5:00 p.m., please enter at the doors where your children will come in each morning (See map HERE). You will receive a passport to take you through the spaces/activities for the event. Then, please join us for a brief Title I presentation in the gym (supervision will be provided on the new back playground for children). We will wrap up the evening on the back playground with treats and time to gather/socialize as a community.

Daily Schedule for McCornack:
8:00 a.m. – Bus Loop closes to vehicles
8:00 a.m. – Outside supervision is available for McCornack students (front and primary playground areas only).
8:00–8:20 a.m. – All students have FREE breakfast in the cafeteria.
* Kindergarten students enter through the cafeteria doors.
8:20–8:30 a.m. – Outside entry doors open for students to go to their classrooms.
* Kindergarten students are escorted by teachers from the cafeteria.
* 1st–5th grade students who have breakfast exit the cafeteria and enter through their designated outside entry doors.
8:30 a.m. – Students arriving after 8:30 a.m. must enter through the main office.
8:35 a.m. – Building-wide announcements, daily intention/affirmation, and mindfulness activity.
8:45 a.m. - Bus loop re-opens for vehicles
2:45 p.m. - Bus Loop closes to vehicles
3:00 p.m. – Dismissal Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.
1:45 p.m. – Wednesday dismissal

Arrival at School: We have designed a system to safely and efficiently welcome students to campus. Please refer to this map. All students are encouraged to eat breakfast in the cafeteria from 8:00-8:20 a.m. daily. All kindergarten students will enter through the cafeteria door (pink dots on map) beginning at 8:00 a.m. 1st-2nd students not eating breakfast will line up and enter from the front playground (green dots on map). 3rd-5th grade students will enter at the front of the building (blue, or white dots on map) between 8:20 and 8:30 a.m. Students will be greeted at the doors before entering the building. All students who arrive after 8:30 a.m. must enter through the main office.
Student Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and some snacks are provided to students at no cost. Students may also bring food and drinks from home. 2nd meals and milk to accompany lunches brought from home are available for an additional fee. Further information regarding meal options and associated costs will be provided soon. Families are asked to communicate with the classroom teacher about any allergies in the class. Food and drinks should be in packaging that is easily opened by the student. Please try to send snacks like fruits, vegetables, whole-grain crackers, and cheese, as these provide the energy and nutrients children need to focus and grow. Please avoid processed snacks high in sugar and salt (chips, candy, cookies), which can lead to energy crashes and interfere with learning time. If able to do so, families are encouraged to send healthy snacks for classrooms.
Personal Items from Home: To help us keep learning as our main focus and prevent distractions in the classroom, toys, stuffed animals, fidgets, games, and other non-instructional items from home must stay at home. These items can often shift a student's attention away from lessons and activities, making it harder for them and their classmates to learn. If needed to support the individual need of a student, we will provide the item/tool at school. The only exceptions are when these items are specifically part of a classroom activity, reward, or project (i.e. classroom PJ and stuffy reward day).
Cell Phones/Electronic Devices: Personal electronic devices are allowed before and after school. Personal electronic device" means any portable, electrically powered device that is capable of making and receiving calls and text messages and accessing the internet independently from the school's network infrastructure. This does not include a laptop computer or other device required to support academic activities. Cell phones and all personal electronic devices (including smartwatches*) must be put away and turned off upon entering the building. Students using personal electronic devices will have their device taken away for the remainder of the day. For a second offense, the device will be taken away and a parent or guardian will need to pick it up from the office. A third offense will lead to a drop off/pick up plan and/or ban of the device for the remainder of the academic term. Bringing these devices to school is discouraged due to possible loss or damage, and the school is not liable for lost or damaged electronics.
*Students may NOT wear smartwatches even if in “airplane mode” during the day.

Participation is by appointment only, and appointment times fill quickly.
Each registered student must be present at their scheduled appointment time. Parents and caregivers do not need a separate appointment.
To help us serve as many 4J students and families as possible, each student may participate at one Project Hope location only.
Please arrive at your scheduled appointment time—not earlier—so organizers can provide a welcoming and streamlined experience for all families.

Standard Response Protocol: The safety and security of your child are our top priority. DISTRICT NOTIFICATIONS:
Title 1 Assessment Testing – The Eugene 4j School District administers both reading and math assessments to each of our students three times a year ~ fall, winter, and spring. Students scoring below the 20th percentile may be recommended by the building-level team to receive instructional interventions in reading and/or math. Students receiving interventions will have their progress monitored during regular intervals. At our school, all students receive 45 minutes of reading instruction and 45 minutes of instruction in the area of mathematics each day. Parents/guardians will be notified if their child is recommended to receive additional reading or math instruction.
Bullying, Harassment and Discrimination Prevention Process - Eugene School District 4J has policies and programs to prohibit and prevent bullying and harassment, including intimidation, cyberbullying, hazing and teen dating violence. District policy also prohibits discrimination, meaning any act that has the purpose or effect of unreasonably differentiating in treatment in any instructional program, extracurricular activity, or in the provision of any other service or benefit on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation (actual or perceived), gender identity or expression, national or ethnic origin, marital status, age, disability, military or veteran status, or any other factor protected by law.
The district encourages students, parents and other patrons to share their concerns with district officials if they believe they or someone else has been the victim of bullying and harassment, including intimidation, cyberbullying, hazing and teen dating violence, sexual harassment or discrimination. No reprisal or adverse action will occur as a consequence of initiating a complaint in good faith.
Incidents should be reported to the school principal or other staff member. An optional Student Safety Reporting Form is available in the front office of the school. If the complainant has worked with the school and is not satisfied with the resolution, or if the principal is alleged to have engaged in wrongdoing, a complaint may be directed to the superintendent’s office. Complaint forms and information about the complaint process are available in all 4J school offices on the 4J website at www.4j.lane.edu/complaints and at the 4J Education Center, 200 North Monroe Street, Eugene, OR 97402. For more information, contact your school principal or the superintendent’s office, 541‑790‑7716.
School to Inform Parents if Their Student Receives a Threat – “Oregon law requires schools to inform parents if their child’s name appears on a targeted list (i.e. a “hit list”) that threatens violence or harm from another student.” We will be using the following procedure to inform you if your student either receives or makes a serious threat of violence or harm.
If your child’s name appears on a list threatening violence or harm by another student, we will attempt to meet with you personally, or talk by telephone, within 12 hours of learning about the threat. We will tell you about the threat, who made it (if we know), and the action we are taking to respond to it. We will also send you a notice within 24 hours, stating that your child received a threat. Our number one priority will be to make sure that school is safe for your children.
If your child made the threat, we will let you know that he or she made it and the action we are taking, including informing the parents of the student who received the threat that your student made. We are also required by the district’s “Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook” to inform the police.
