Family Connection Workshops: How can you get involved in our school community and support your student(s)? 

Join us on Tuesday and Thursday evenings in March. FREE dinner at 6pm; workshop from 6:30-7:30. March 5, 6, 11, 13, 18 & 20. Come to one or all! Kids are welcome too and will do an activity that correlates to the parent session. We will be discussing Conscious Discipline, a social-emotional learning (SEL) program that teaches people how to manage their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It's based on brain research, child development, and trauma-informed practices. Click HERE to view the flyer.

PTO Corner: The PTO board meets the last Tuesday of every month. Anyone is welcome to join the board meetings anytime. If you are interested in volunteering for the Carnival, please contact your PTO president, Sydney Mills at Sydney_l@live.com 

POPCORN FRIDAY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! We need volunteers to pop popcorn on Friday, March 21. If we don’t have people signed up by Thursday afternoon, March 20th, popcorn Friday will be canceled.

AVID: What is WICOR???

To recap:

WICOR is an acronym for Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading and provides a learning model that educators can use to guide students in comprehending concepts and articulating ideas at increasingly complex levels. Within WICOR are variety of teaching strategies essential to student learning and work well in all types of classrooms. Why WICOR?

• WICOR is: A proven learning support structure, for any content area.

• Teachers who WICORize: Guide students to deeper comprehension and increasing skill levels. Choose WICOR strategies appropriate to the content and skill objectives of their content area.

• Students who WICORize: Actively work with new information in order to think, talk, write, read, and ask questions, leading to long-term learning. Develop skills and attitudes that will serve them well in postsecondary life.

These are our guiding strategies as an AVID Elementary School. These strategies have been around and in the teaching world are known as “Best Practices”. We value having a system to engage and instruct your children, our students.

McCornack Family JOY Event:  On April 5th, from 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., McCornack will be holding a Family JOY Event.  This event will directly serve our McCornack families free of charge. We will have a variety of fun activities for kids and representatives from various community organizations will also be present. Watch here for more information!

BottleDrop Fundraiser: 

Attention McCornack Families!

From Feb 21-Mar 21 our school will be having a BottleDrop fundraiser! Please participate if possible.

You or your student can pick up bags for bottles at the main office or on service Saturday (March 1st 9am-11am).

You may drop off full bags before school from 7:30-8:30 and after school from 3:00-4:00 or on Saturday March 1st 9am-11am on service Saturday.

Sluggo’s Home Run Reading Challenge: Your student has been challenged by Sluggo and the Eugene Emeralds to take part in Flat Sluggo’s Home Run Reading Program. This program is where reading = Emeralds tickets! Your student has been given a reading goal by their teacher. They also received a special Reading Program bookmark. It is up to your student to track their reading progress on the back of the bookmark. Once your student has completed the challenge make sure they turn in their completed bookmark to their teacher. Students who complete their bookmark will receive TWO (2) free ticket vouchers good for an early season Emeralds game. Bookmarks are due BY MARCH 21st. The ticket vouchers, and instructions on how to redeem those, will be sent home with your student in April.

Bike Rodeo Coming to our School’s Playground!

Let's celebrate biking! On April 1st from 3:00-3:30, 4J Safe Routes to School and BEST are coming together to provide a fun way for our students to improve their biking skills and get excited about riding! Kids of all ages are welcome to ride through a bike skills course, blend smoothies with pedal power and learn bike safety. Students not in the BEST program must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Bring your own bike or ride ours. Free!

Do you or your child want to learn how to ride a bike? 

Join 4J Safe Routes to School and partners at either or both of these all-ages, free, learn to ride a bike events coming up. Helmets and bikes will be provided, or bring your own. 

• Tuesday, April  29 from 5pm to 7pm at 4J Ed Center (200 North Monroe St, Eugene, OR)

Remember, these events are free and are for people of ALL AGES who do not yet know how to ride a bike!

Girls On The Run: Girls on the Run is a girl-empowerment organization that inspires participants to be joyful, healthy and confident using evidence- based lessons that combine relationship building, community strengthening, and goal setting with physical movement. 

Practices will be held at McCornack Elementary!

Next Level Flag Football - University of Oregon: SIGN-UP today for our Spring Flag Football Season (K-7th Grade). No prior experience is needed! This is a great opportunity to learn and have fun. Players will be coached/mentored by Oregon Football Players & Staff. Practice/Games are on Sundays throughout April, May and June. Come play where our football team practices and plays. Churchill Babe Ruth Baseball: 

Peachealth Play days for Grades 1st-5th: Kidsports is excited to offer our “PeaceHealth Play Days” throughout the school year for kids when schools are closed weekdays for administrative/grading/professional development days, etc.

The Kidsports Fieldhouse is the perfect place for your kids to spend the day being active and to arrive home happy and tired. Kids will experience an action-packed day of games such as Dodgeball, Kickball, Basketball, along with other activities like the popular GaGa Ball game, an Obstacle course, Pickleball…and much, much more!

Camp runs 9am to 3:00pm for grades 1-5. We have options for an extended care in the morning (8:00am) and afternoon (4:00pm) for an additional fee. Kids should wear active clothing and gym shoes with non-marking soles, bring a water bottle and a lunch/snacks. No phones or smartwatches at camp. Sign up now, spots are limited.

Due to lack of space and to make for an environment more conducive to learning, spectators and parents are not able to attend these class sessions.

Pre-arranged absences of three or more days: The pre-arranged absence form for School District 4J is used to request an excused absence for a planned event, such as a family trip. The form is required for absences of three or more days, and must be completed and submitted in advance:
