AVID: What is WICOR???

Now that we have explained WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Communication, Organization and Reading), AVID’s support structure, let’s dig into each critical area:

The “R” in the WICOR acronym stands for READING.  Reading is strategically gaining meaning, understanding and knowledge from print and other media, purpose-driven, and interactive sources. Students who read understand text structures, apply prior knowledge and make connections to other text, self and world, make predictions and ask questions, and create visual images as they read.

Teachers enrich student learning with the use of our current curriculum (Wit and Wisdom), reading instruction within many other subjects, as well as quiet reading times, library time and small group instruction.

McCornack is an AVID Elementary school.

McCornack Family JOY Event:  On April 5th, from 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., McCornack will be holding a Family JOY Event.  This event will directly serve our McCornack families free of charge. We will have a variety of fun activities for kids and representatives from various community organizations will also be present. Watch here for more information!
