NED Show Assembly: NED's Mindset Mission is a character education program that centers around three important messages that have lifelong relevance: Never give up, Encourage others and Do your best. During the assembly, students will learn about the importance of these three life skills while also enjoying storytelling, magic, humor and yo-yo tricks. We recommend linking the underlined text (shown above) to our website,

http://www.mindsetmission.com/assembly.html

McCornack Student Expectations: At the beginning of the year and after each break from school, as a community, we review our expectations for students. Please see the matrix below so that you know what is expected at McCornack. Each week we will highlight a different area of the school. Please take a moment and check in with your student to see if they know the 3 big expectations and how they apply to the specific areas. If you have any questions, please check in with Mrs. Kuhl or anyone on the Climate and Culture team.

This week our highlighted area is assemblies: Our basic three school expectations apply during assemblies as well.  See the matrix below for specifics about being physically and emotionally safe in the hallway as well as being responsible and a caretaker during an assembly.  Our next assembly is February 19th- next Wednesday. It's incredibly helpful to go over these with your child at home so that they know that you are aware of McCornack expectations. Please check in with Mrs. Kuhl or anyone on the Climate and Culture team if you have questions regarding any of our school expectations!:

AVID: What is WICOR???

Last week we explained WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Communication, Organization and Reading), AVID’s support structure. Let’s dig into each critical area:

Inquiry is: • Uncovering one’s understanding • Critical thinking and questioning • Exploring a variety of ways to solve problems • Engaging in thinking, learning, and discussion to inspire innovation

In elementary school, students use inquiry to wonder and become curious about the world around them whether in the classroom, at home or out in the community.

Having good inquiry skills will help students to be interested in their learning and connect with the world around them.

Title I Math Morning for Families: We are EXCITED to open the doors of McCornack for parents/guardians for a VERY special Title 1 morning!  Coffee and treats will be provided!  Visit your child’s classroom, watch your child’s morning meeting, and play a math game with your child. Instructions and materials will be given to you in Spanish and English so you can continue playing at home. The math game will help your child practice the math skills your student is learning in class :)

Reserve the date! We are excited to see you!

March 4  grades 4-5   8:30 - 9:30 a.m.
