Seasonal Allergies Reminder: Warm weather is here! If your student is affected by seasonal allergies (itchy/watery eyes, runny nose, scratchy throat), please consider starting their daily allergy medicine now. McCornack’s JOY Event:  McCornack is excited to host our upcoming Family JOY Event on April 18th from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m, a special day created to directly support our McCornack families and celebrate our wonderful community.

This event is designed to directly support our McCornack families by providing a complimentary meal, toiletries, clothing, food pantry items, and haircuts at no cost. We will also offer a variety of fun activities for children, and representatives from several community organizations will be present to connect families with valuable local resources.

How You Can Help

We are currently seeking donations and community partnerships to make this event a success!

Toiletry donations will be accepted beginning Friday, April 1st in the McCornack office during regular school hours.

Your generosity makes a meaningful difference in the lives of our families.

Please email McCornack at mccornack@4j.lane.edu if you have connections to individuals who might be able to host a table (community organizations, activities for students in the community, etc.).

McCornack Carnival: SAVE the DATEThursday, June 4th from 6:00-8:00pm:

We need YOU to help make this fun family event a huge success. Here are some ways you can support this event and our school.

1. Volunteers: Each classroom will be responsible for a carnival game and will need at least 6 volunteers from the class to take shifts throughout the carnival. And there will be other volunteer opportunities to sign up for as well. A volunteer sign up will be sent out via ParentSquare today (3/20). Please find an hour that you can volunteer and you will receive FREE tickets as a thank you for taking time to help our carnival run smoothly.

2. Auction Baskets: Each grade-level is responsible to put together a themed basket for our auction. Please check your child's backpack for a yellow flier describing the theme that you can make donations for. Also, if you have any baskets or bins lying around that you could donate to assemble the items in, then that would be helpful too.

3. Business Donations for the Auction: If you or someone you know has an item or service from a local business that they can donate to our auction, then we will happily accept them. More information about this, including the EIN number, will be going out after spring break.

PTO Carnival Planning Meeting: We’re gearing up for our annual school carnival and would love your help! Join us on April 8 from 6:30–7:30 PM to share ideas, divide up tasks, and help make this event a fun, memorable experience for our kids.

All volunteers will receive free carnival tickets as a thank-you for your time and support.

More details and sign-ups will be shared through ParentSquare before spring break.

If you’ve been looking for a way to get involved, this is a great place to start. We hope to see you there!

Spread Kindness Everywhere Campaign:

Dear McCornack Families,

It was such a pleasure to work with your kiddos this year on our Spread Kindness Everywhere campaign and teach about How to Make Friends with a Rabbit.

The ideas your children gave about how to be kind to animals, our planet and other humans were proof that both kind hearts and critical thinking abound at McCornack Elementary. THANK YOU!!

If your child is in K-2, I either met them or they watched a video of the Blue Barn Bunnies and they learned a little bit about how to make friends with a rabbit (a great lesson in kindness, compassion and empathy!!) and all of those kids were kind enough to make a treat bag for our rescued rabbits.

We hope you all enjoy a video of some of our buns enjoy their new goodies!

Thanks again, and we hope to see you out at the farm for Bunnies n Books, Summer Tours, or one of our Blue Barn events

Library Corner:

What we learned March

Our Character Focus for the month of April is: Perseverance: The Power of YET

The Bee Jamboree choices for March will be: Rock Paper Scissors Tournament vs. Chalk Art

People who Persevere and Have a Growth Mindset:

  • Are willing to learn from their mistakes

  • They take risks and embrace challenges

  • They celebrate small successes

  • Are inspired by the success of others

  • See flaws and mistakes as opportunities for improvement

  • Are open-minded

  • Take ownership over their own learning

  • Have clear goals and know the steps to achieve those goals

Lost and Found: We have an abundance of lost items. They will be on racks outside of the office during school hours.  We’d love for all the lost things to find their homes.
