Lockdown drill 3/16/26: On Monday, March 16th, McCornack students and staff will participate in a lockdown drill.  The primary objective of a drill is for participants to build muscle memory, and practice an action to use in various events or situations. A secondary objective is for the people who are administering the drill to validate procedures, clarify roles and identify operational process gaps.  Prior to the drill and announcement will be made to staff and students.  Students will sit silently in a “safe zone” in their classrooms until their room door is unlocked and cleared by a staff member.  4J is a partner with the ‘”I Love U Guys” Foundation.  For more information: https://iloveuguys.org/  Please feel free to reach out to Dana if you have questions/concerns.

OBOB Final Four!  Congratulations to our OBOB Final FOUR team, Better with Books!  We are incredibly proud of Phoenix, Haddon, August, and Kavi & Coaches Kate Wagoner and Nicole Siegel (Kavi’s mom)  who represented McCornack at this year’s regional tournament. They advanced farther than any team in McCornack history!

Family Math Mornings:  Thanks to all of the families and friends who attended this past week's Title I Family Math Mornings! We enjoyed hosting this special opportunity for families to visit classrooms and engage in math games aligned with and included in our new Bridges math curriculum.  A special thanks to our Title team and teachers for hosting!

Unicycle Show 3/8: Congratulations to the unicycle students and coaches for once again WOW-ing the huge crowd at Matthew Knight Arena Saturday night.  They brought out new exciting tricks and inspired the Ducks to win!

Irish Dancing Lessons: A huge thanks to McCornack parent, Alex Hailey, for spending her day today teaching Irish dancing to all of our students! Our 5th grade students even had the opportunity to welcome our Superintendent, Dr. Mickeleson, who joined in the fun as well.

McCornack’s JOY Event:  McCornack is excited to host our upcoming Family JOY Event on April 18th from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m, a special day created to directly support our McCornack families and celebrate our wonderful community.

This event is designed to directly support our McCornack families by providing a complimentary meal, toiletries, clothing, food pantry items, and haircuts at no cost. We will also offer a variety of fun activities for children, and representatives from several community organizations will be present to connect families with valuable local resources.

How You Can Help

We are currently seeking donations and community partnerships to make this event a success!

Toiletry donations will be accepted beginning Friday, April 1st in the McCornack office during regular school hours.

Your generosity makes a meaningful difference in the lives of our families.

Please email McCornack at mccornack@4j.lane.edu if you have connections to individuals who might be able to host a table (community organizations, activities for students in the community, etc.).

PTO Carnival Planning Meeting: We’re gearing up for our annual school carnival and would love your help! Join us on April 8 from 6:30–7:30 PM to share ideas, divide up tasks, and help make this event a fun, memorable experience for our kids.

All volunteers will receive free carnival tickets as a thank-you for your time and support.

More details and sign-ups will be shared through ParentSquare before spring break.

If you’ve been looking for a way to get involved, this is a great place to start. We hope to see you there!

Kindness Campaign: Continue our  kindness campaign at home by doing  intentional, daily actions that foster a caring environment. Maybe create a "kindness jar" for positive reinforcement, write encouraging notes to each other, perform random acts of kindness for neighbors, and volunteer as a family. Simple habits like modeling kind behavior, donating items, and daily compliments build a lasting culture of compassion.

Here are a couple other simple ideas that you could start today:

  • Kindness Calendar: Follow a daily calendar with small tasks, such as calling a relative or  making a craft for a neighbor.

  • Compliment Circle: Start dinner by having each person give a compliment to someone else at the table.

  • Support Local Heroes: Make cards or send treats to local fire stations, police stations, or hospital staff.

  • Kindness Rocks: Paint rocks with positive messages and place them around your neighborhood for others to find

Our Character Focus for the month of March is: Curiosity and Problem Solving: "I wonder about the world around me. I focus on solutions."

The Bee Jamboree choices for March will be: Rock Paper Scissors Tournament vs. End of Day Slumber Party

People who are Curious Problem Solvers:

  • ask questions

  • are rarely bored

  • are motivated and love to learn

  • are willing to make mistakes

  • are creative

  • have a sense of adventure

  • stay focused on solutions

Lost and Found: We have an abundance of lost items. They will be on racks outside of the office during school hours.  We’d love for all the lost things to find their homes.
